Standard difficulty gives survival supplies more room
The headline balance change in 0.8.6 is a 15% reduction to food, water and fatigue drain rates on Standard difficulty. The official notes attribute the adjustment to feedback that hunger and thirst were falling too quickly.
This is a change relative to the preceding version. It is not an extra discount to apply again to current wiki values, and the announcement does not say that oxygen drain was reduced by the same amount. RedRuins also states that players can switch to Easy or Story without starting a new game.
For current planning, use the survival reference to compare difficulty settings, and keep food-machine costs separate from hunger drain. A nutrient budget tells you what a machine can produce; it does not by itself determine how long that food will last during a trip.
Battery and ice objectives are more forgiving
The hatch-battery objective no longer insists on breaking the ice if the player already found a battery elsewhere. Any battery from any location can meet that requirement. This removes a case where the objective could appear to demand a redundant interaction.
Other fixes address clearing the 10G antenna ice too quickly without advancing the quest, breaking ice on the station door without progression, and the station robot failing to emerge after a death during its first dialogue.
Input devices and machine durability
The patch fixes a gamepad taking control and preventing a return to keyboard input. It also addresses an invisible menu cursor for players with a yoke, wheel or pedals connected.
DIY upgrades removed from food or water machines no longer return to 100 durability. Removing and reinstalling a part should therefore not be treated as a free repair method. Steam Trading Cards were also added with this update.
